Employment
rights
1.
What should I do if I feel discriminated against?
Discrimination
is hard to prove so you want to keep as much written documentation
of the incidents as possible. Keep records of all acts, of all reports
to your supervisors about them and your supervisor's responses.
Contact the Washington
State Human Rights Commission and the Equal Employment Opportunity
Commission. They will investigate your claim. You may also want
to check into the legal help section.
2.
What should I do if someone at work is harassing me?
If it's a co-worker,
report the problem as soon as possible to your supervisor. If it
is your supervisor harassing you, report it to their supervisor
or the personnel department. If the employer fails to do anything,
contact the Washington
State Human Rights Commission or the Equal Employment Opportunity
Commission.
3.
What if I feel I was fired for illegal reasons?
Keep personal records
of all job evaluations, raises, promotions and other indications
of your job performance. Write down when you reported any harassment
or discrimination acts to your supervisors. Also write down what
you and your supervisors each said during your reports. Then contact
an attorney, the Washington
State Human Rights Commision or the Equal Employment Opportunity
Commission.
4.
What if my boss or co-workers harass, punish or fire me for filing
a complaint?
An
employer can not fire, punish or demote you for filing a harassment
or discrimination complaint. You must complain to a government agency
like the Washington
State Human Rights Commision or the Equal Employment Opportunity
Commission to help enforce this right. |
