How can the father and I come to a decision about whether or not
to keep the baby?
Ultimately, it is the women’s
decision what to do with the baby. If the woman decides to make
an adoption plan for her baby, then the father can file for custody
of the child. The most important thing to remember is to not get
angry at each other. You both created this child, so it is no
more the other ones fault. Getting angry with the father or making
him feel as if he isn’t wanted will push him away. It is
equally his child; try to understand this, even if you are no
longer in a relationship. Use phrases such as, “our baby”
rather than “my baby”.
If
the father of the baby tries to threaten you to have an abortion
or give the baby up, you might want to alert people around you
of the situation. Usually, this won’t become violent, but
it is best to be prepared. The
mother makes the final decision in what happens to the child,
so do what you feel best, not what others want you to do.

How can I pay for the medical bills?
(pregnancy or abortion)
If
you are pregnant and you don’t have the funds to cover the
medical costs, you can try out for Medicaid. Medicaid provides
free or low cost medical assistance for women in Washington based
on their income and number of people in family. For more information
go to http://www.metrokc.gov/health/insurance/pregnant.htm
When
you get pregnant in Washington, the state counts you as two people
so that you qualify for emergency medical coupons. These can help
cover costs of abortion as well. To get information on how to
apply, visit the community health clinic in your area.
