Moving
Changing
Services
When you move, you want to remember to move local phone, long distance
phone and cable services to your new address. Try to contact them
soon after you know you are moving so there is sufficient time to
schedule turning your services on within the first few days of settling
into your new place. Call ahead to shut off the gas/electricity
for the day after you move and leave a forwarding address for the
last bills to be sent to you so creditors don't call later.
Packing
Get supplies! You will want
newspaper for wrapping fragile items, a scissors, big markers to
label boxes and a roll of packing tape. Use smaller boxes for books
as they will be heavy to carry. Pack room by room to keep similar
items together. Pack boxes firmly to prevent shifting of items during
transit and reinforce the bottom of boxes with a strip of tape along
the seam to prevent breakage. Use your towels, linens and clothers
to protect delicate items. Pack essentials in an overnight bag or
well marked box so you will immediately have access to soap, towels,
tiolet paper, your shower curtain, a few dishes, pet food, trash
bags and cleaning supplies.
Letting
others know
You want to make sure you don't miss any important
mail in the move. Move your magazine subscriptions by calling 888.835.2124.
Also notify businesses for your voter registration, workplace, child
care provider, car insurance, health insurance, driver's license,
dentist, the veterinary clinic, school, bank and any credit cards.

Need help?
Moving
services can be expensive to hire. Ask your friends, family and
classmates if they would have time to assist you. Make the most
of your time with helpers by saving the large, bulky and heavy items
for the group effort. |
Finding Boxes
Searching for empty boxes is an important part of the moving process!
Some moving companies and trucking or packing companies charge
fees for them. You can either purchase some or hunt some down
- check in recycle bins of offices, at the liquor store, behind
grocery stores and other shopping outlets.
